Tim Grieve, The War Room: In a revelation reminiscent of the Downing Street memo, the Spanish newspaper El Pais has obtained and published what it says is the transcript of a private conversation between George W. Bush and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in February 2003.In the conversation, Aznar reportedly urged Bush to get a second resolution from the United Nations in order to build public support for the invasion of Iraq. Bush's response: The United States would "be in Baghdad at the end of March" no matter what the United Nations did.
The president was true to his word, or at least the one he seems to have given in his private chat with Aznar: The U.N. never agreed to a second resolution on Iraq, and the United States invaded anyway.
